Kilowatt Merger FAQ

Why is Kilowatt Community Credit Union merging with Missouri Credit Union?

Kilowatt has served the Jefferson City community and Ameren employees for more than 65 years. The board of directors wants to ensure the longevity of the credit union and to provide the members it serves with additional services, such as mortgage loans and online account management tools. It was important to Kilowatt to find a partner who shares similar values of a ‘members first’ mentality.

Through ongoing discussions, it was apparent Kilowatt and Missouri Credit Union share similar beliefs and care deeply about their members. Both organizations are committed to providing Jefferson City and surrounding communities with better rates on loans and savings accounts, and fewer fees. Both organizations treat members with respect, integrity and care, and have earned solid reputations over the years.

When will the merger officially take place?

The merger will be official on April 1, 2018.

Will the Hyde Park location close?

We do anticipate closing the Hyde Park location, but members can take advantage of the three Jefferson City and four Columbia Missouri Credit Union locations as well as a network of 5,000 shared branches via the CO-OP Network.

Will the Kilowatt name or phone number change?

Kilowatt will become Missouri Credit Union and, in time, you will see the MCU name on the Callaway and Truman Blvd ATMs. You can continue to use the same phone number and account login through March 31.

Beginning April 1, you can contact Missouri Credit Union at (573) 635-8007 or via email at questions@missouricu.org. Our call center is available to answer your questions 8:00 am – 5:30 pm Monday through Friday and 9:00 am – 12:00 noon on Saturday.

Will I continue to receive the same services?

There is no plan to drop any services. In fact, Missouri Credit Union will offer many additional financial services and benefits in the very near future to ensure Kilowatt members have a wide variety to choose from.

Will I still get the same service and attention?

Missouri Credit Union will ensure the transition is smooth. Missouri Credit Union’s goal is to treat members like family.

Our main priority in 2018 is to ensure every member is well taken care of and the transition is as seamless as possible. We will continue to provide top-notch service, educate members with sound financial advice, pool resources to benefit members and earn your confidence.

Will I still be able to use my debit card?

Your debit card will be active through March 31. Our goal is for all Kilowatt members to receive their new MCU debit card prior to March 31. The PIN should arrive approximately three days later. Beginning April 2, Kilowatt members can activate their new MCU debit cards at an ATM using the new PIN or by calling (573) 635-8007.

Will I still have access to Online Banking?

Kilowatt members will continue to have access to Kilowatt Online Banking through March 31.

Beginning April 2, all Kilowatt members with a valid email address on file can register for access to MCU@Home which features expanded services such as BillPayer, e-Alerts and Dollar Dashboard. To ensure a seamless transition, please ensure your contact information is current.

Missouri Credit Union also offers Mobile Banking for Android and Apple devices.

Will I need to order new checks?

Your checks will continue to process and post to your account without issue.

However, you should plan to order new checks with the new routing and account number within the next 3 – 6 months.

Will I be able to access past Kilowatt records and statements?

All members will receive their March statement via mail as online banking will no longer be accessible after March 31. We encourage you to download any other electronic statements if you would like a copy for your records.

Post-merge you can go into any MCU branch and request past statements to be printed. The most recent statement is always printed at no charge, but there is a $3 fee for any prior statements.

I have a recurring transaction/monthly bill set to be automatically paid with my debit card. Do I need to do anything?

Yes, you will need to update the payment information once you receive your new debit card.

I have a recurring ACH transaction (Direct Deposit or Direct Payment) set up. Do I need to do anything?

No action is needed at this time. Missouri Credit Union is able to map the transactions from your Kilowatt account to your new MCU account.
