Courtesy Pay Disclosure

Missouri Credit Union offers a Courtesy Pay service for all checking accounts. This service will help you effectively manage your account. No need to apply for this service or sign any additional documents. It’s already part of your checking account agreement.

How Courtesy Pay works — Rather than automatically returning your unpaid non-sufficient fund (NSF) items, MCU will consider, without obligation on our part, payment of your reasonable overdrafts up to $200 for Your Money Your Way checking accounts and $500 for Your Money with Perks and Your Money with Interest checking accounts, as long as you maintain your account in good standing. MCU is not obligated to pay every item, but Courtesy Pay will help you avoid expensive returned check fees from merchants!

What Courtesy Pay costs you — There are no monthly maintenance fees and no set-up charges. However, MCU’s normal non-sufficient funds or overdraft (NSF/OD) charge of $27.00 will apply to each item that causes your checking account to go negative. Typically, we will charge our normal NSF/OD fee whether we approve an overdraft item for payment or return it unpaid. Transactions that may cause or create overdrafts using your Courtesy Pay limit include those initiated by checks or Automated Clearing House (ACH).

Of course, we can’t promise to pay every NSF item that brings your checking account negative even if your checking account is in good standing, and even though we’ve paid similar items in the past. There are restrictions to Courtesy Pay.

It is the policy of Missouri Credit Union (“the CU, we, us or our”) to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and to conduct business in accordance with applicable safety and soundness standards. A non-sufficient funds (negative) balance may result from:

  1. The payment of checks, electronic fund transfers, or other withdrawal requests;
  2. Payments authorized by you;
  3. The returned, unpaid items deposited by you;
  4. The imposition of applicable service charges; and
  5. The deposit of items which according to MCU’s Funds Availability Policy, are treated as not yet “available” or finally paid.

Missouri Credit Union is not obligated to pay an item presented on your account if your account does not contain sufficient collected funds. Rather than automatically returning an item unpaid, the item may be paid if the eligible account has been open for at least thirty (30) days. After the initial 30 days and if your account is in good standing, we will consider without obligation on our part, approving your reasonable overdrafts up to your assigned Courtesy Pay limit including our fees. Good standing is defined as at least:

  1. You continue to make deposits consistent with your past practices, and depositing at least $400 or more in your account within each thirty (30) day period;
  2. You are not in default on any loan obligation to MCU;
  3. You bring your account to a positive balance (not overdrawn) at least once every thirty (30) days;
  4. Your account is not the subject of any legal or administrative order or levy; and
  5. Your savings account has a positive balance.

This discretionary service ¹ will generally be limited to a $200 overdraft (negative) balance for Your Money Your Way checking accounts and $500 overdraft (negative) balance for Your Money with Perks and Your Money with Interest checking accounts with a recurring monthly deposit (subject to approval). Any and all fees and charges, including but not limited to non-sufficient funds/overdraft fees (as set forth in our fee schedules) will be included in the courtesy pay limit. MCU reserves the right to require you to pay your negative balance, including all fees on demand.

Whether your overdrafts will be paid or not is at our sole discretion and we reserve the right not to pay. For example, we typically do not pay overdrafts if your account is not in good standing or if you have too many overdrafts. We may refuse to pay an overdraft for you at any time, even though your account is in good standing and even though we may have previously paid overdrafts for you. We have no obligation to notify you before we pay or return any item. The amount of any overdrafts plus our non-sufficient funds and/or Overdraft (NSF/OD) charge(s) that you owe us shall be due and payable on demand. If there is an overdraft paid by us on an account with more than one (1) owner on the signature card, each owner, and agent if applicable, drawing/presenting the item creating the overdraft, shall be jointly and severally liable for such overdrafts including our fees.

LIMITATIONS — We may limit the number of accounts eligible for Courtesy Pay to one account per household.

Optional Overdraft Services — You may want to apply for a line of credit loan. If you apply and are approved for this optional service, you may save money on total fees you pay us for Courtesy Pay services.

We do value your membership at Missouri Credit Union. Courtesy Pay is another tool provided by your credit union to help you manage your account.
